The Creative Process: From Idea to Story
I began writing my first children's books in Europe while on vacation. It's a wonderful process to experience creativity and easily done when you organize yourself. I put together a few free pointers for you having coffee - not far from the Trevi Fountain in Italy. I do hope these tips help you to get started writing your first children's book.
Writing a children’s book often starts with a simple idea. Here’s a step-by-step approach to bring your story to life:
Brainstorm ideas: Jot down anything that sparks your interest, no matter how small or silly.
Choose your main character and setting: Who is your story about? Where does it take place?
Outline the plot: What problem does your character face? How do they solve it?
Write a first draft: Don’t worry about perfection. Focus on getting the story down.
Revise and simplify: Cut unnecessary words, clarify confusing parts, and make sure the story flows smoothly.
Add illustrations or collaborate with an illustrator: Pictures bring children’s books to life and help tell the story.
Test with children: Share your story with kids and observe their reactions. Use feedback to improve.
This process can take time, but each step brings you closer to a story that will delight young readers.
