There’s something magical about this time of year — the crisp air, the rustle of leaves, and the smell of hay drifting through the breeze. For me, autumn has always meant one thing: the farm.
I still remember, as a little girl, wobbling through a pumpkin patch, determined to pick up a pumpkin that was almost bigger than I was! I’d tumble, laugh, and try again. The sounds of fall — tractors humming in the distance, chickens clucking, and the wind whispering through the cornfields — became part of my childhood soundtrack.
Now, as an author and grandmother, those memories inspire me to share the beauty of farm life with little ones today. Before Thanksgiving, there’s no better time to help children connect with where their food comes from — to let them see the pumpkins, pat the animals, and understand the simple joy of harvest time.
🎃 A Perfect Lesson for Preschoolers
A visit to a pumpkin patch or farm isn’t just an outing — it’s a sensory adventure. The crunch of hay, the smell of apples and earth, the feel of a goat’s soft nose — these moments spark curiosity and gratitude in young hearts. It’s where lessons about kindness, caring for animals, and being thankful truly come alive. It's an experience that will forever stay with your child.
🐷 And Speaking of Farm Fun…

That’s exactly what inspired my latest children’s book, Who’s Rockin’ the Farm? — a hilarious story about two farm animals, Portomus Pig and Dude Donkey, who dream of becoming rock stars. There’s just one little problem… they’re terrible at music!
Their band, The Farm Street Boys (yes — a playful spin on that boy's band we all knew and loved......good for an adult chuckle), fills the barnyard with so many Doodle-de Doodle-de Doos that every animal on the farm covers their ears! But through the chaos, the story reminds us that dreams, laughter, and persistence matter — and that even farm animals can learn that practice makes perfect! (eventually!).
🧺 A Thanksgiving Treat for the Whole Family
This book isn’t just for kids — it’s for all the kids who love fall, the adults who remember the joy of country life, the smell of fresh-baked pies, and the laughter of children running through fields. It’s an entertaining story to share with preschoolers this Thanksgiving season — whether you’re visiting a pumpkin patch, cuddled up after dinner, or giving thanks around the table.
If you have little ones in your family — or if you’re visiting friends and bringing a pumpkin pie — tuck a copy of Who’s Rockin’ the Farm? into your bag. It’s a gift that will make the kids laugh, the parents smile, and everyone remember what this season is truly about — gratitude, laughter, and love sprinkled with a little gentle fun.
Who's Rockin' The Farm will be released this week - so go to Amazon to get your copy and make a little one happy this Thanksgiving!
Gently,
Liv McLean
